Vortex is TAKEN??

Apr. 11th, 2006 | 11:13 am

Apparently there's a minor villain in DC Comics named Vortex, so the Ops won't let me use the name. I had to think up a new name, so I chose Demonik. It's straightforward about his appearance anyway }:P

Goodbye Darien, Welcome Back Vortex

Apr. 7th, 2006 | 01:31 pm

WARNING: RP musings follow. If you are allergic to role playing games, online games or X-Men comics, skip this entry!
(And most of my entries to come for that matter..)

I've been off of Second Life for about two weeks now. I'm just getting to the point where I don't feel I'm missing something. It's a wonderful environment..beats the hell out of Sims Online. But it was just too addictive. Being up til 3AM on a weekday is just a bad idea in general. The thing I miss the most about SL? The goth clubs. Now that I can't just up and go downtown to get my music fix, I'd just got to Transylvania or Club Chaotica or half a dozen other places and watch my demon avatar Darien do his dance14..stick your right arm out and tip over..that's basically all it is.

So I'm back to MU*ing..I submitted a version of my mutant avatar Vortex to Heroes Reborn. The game just started in September so there's a backlog of apps, so I may not hear anything for a while. I think I can make this version bet than his last iterations.

The X-Men Muck version (original flavor) was too unstable for his own good. I made his background too dark, his powers were poorly defined, and I tried to build him up too fast. The personality clashes with the sysops didn't help either..

The Evo-MOO version was tame enough to have been a character in the actual cartoon. Instead of being an orphan who escaped from a broken home, he still lived with his father and little sister..until he went to Xavier's School. But Bayville was BOOORING. V is a streetrat who's more at home in NYC. If a certain player didn't hoax all the other players into abandoning the game I might still be playing there.

The Denied Destinies version was a blend of the previous two. Yes, he was an orphan, but his little sister came with him. Having a dependent NPC gave him more responsibility, and judging from the other players, made him a more sympathetic character. I'm not sure what happened with DD..it got to the point where I just couldn't find anyone on to RP with so I left. Some emigrees from DD on HB told me it just lost steam. I suspect the sysops were holding the riegns too closely on the Major Plots.

So the HB version I'm apping is very similar to the DD version...maybe with a touch more realism. Except I gave him a day job as a bicycle messenger instead of being a full-time thief (he just steals when he trouble putting food on the table). And to make things interesting I made him bipolar with a Ritalin addiction. That way I have a reason to have him fly off the handle, but his sister be there to calm him down if he starts going too far. It will also be a challenge RPing him trying to overcome both of his conditions.

R.I.P. to 144b

Mar. 9th, 2006 | 10:13 pm

The cappers just found out today that we lost another member. 144b (aka Bert Tilley) died last month of congestive heart failure. It's funny how you feel you know someone for nine years only by what they write. Goodbye, Friend. Say "Hi" to Widget for us.
